SERVICE DELIVERY :

So far Zamzam concentrated its efforts, though small in scale, on Education (both the National Curriculum and Islamic Education), Poverty reduction, Shelter provisions, and Health & Sanitation programs. These are –

• Monthly Survival Allowances to poor aged/widows/orphans,
• Support for house building and repairing of existing houses,
• Support for income generating activities and self-employed business start-up,
• Marriage support to poor parents (for daughter’s wedding ceremony),
• Organize satellite Medical camps and provide medical care ranging from supply of medicine to financial support for operative treatment,
• Literacy programs for children and adults, particularly of underprivileged groups,
• Financial support for both individual student & education centers,
• Supply of covered hygienic latrine and tube-wells for safe drinking water,
• Emergency relief operations in the aftermath of a natural disaster,
• Distribution of warm clothes during winter,
• Iftar distribution during Holy Ramadan, and
• Zakath-Fitra distribution and distribution of Qurbani meat, etc.

The Survival Allowance and provision for self-employment fight poverty at its base by meeting essential day-to-day survival needs. Education and training in different fields enable the poorer class to develop the capacity to enter into the mainstream of the workforce and enforce them to fight the causes of poverty. House-building assistance and health-hygiene support strengthen the capacity of individuals to work. ‘Environment’ & ‘Good governance’ are also on the program agenda. Zam Zam is, however, spreading its activities with the support of its sponsors.

CHARITY IN ISLAM :

Allah (SWT) has promised great rewards for those who are charitable towards the needy. It is said in the Holy Qur’an “Who believe in the Unseen; are steadfast in prayer; and spend out of what We Have provided for them. …. ….They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and it is this who will prosper.” Allah (SWT) has blessed us with the wealth and means to test whether we spend it in the way He directed us to spend. There are millions of people around the world who live in adversity and do not have the means to live a quality life. It is our obligation to provide assistance and support to them in whatever way we can.

Funding Sources :

The question of sustainability and the smooth running of a development organization mostly depends on the availability of resources. Zamzam Bangladesh has been receiving generous support (Zakat & General contribution) from different sources
